Politics Today – A Lesson From SimCity BuildIt

Hi Guys,

It’s me, Cheeky Monkey HD.Com the Mayor, here. Given recent events, I’d like to take a few moments to talk to you all about how my experiences as a mayor en Simcity relate to the real-world tribulations of the “real world” world of politics. Sure, SimCity BuildIt may just be “a game”, but let’s not forget that this open-ended city-building franchise stretches all the way back to 1989 (aka *ancient history* lol), and so it obviously has a lot to teach us.

Anyone who has even the most limited SCBI experience will immediately jump up from their seats and declare: “Yes, yes, I can clearly see the parallels between “IRL” politics and the world of SimCity mayoring.”  And, although I wholeheartedly agree with this opinion, please remember that this isn’t me speaking: it’s the opinion of someone with the most limited SCBI experience.  Just imagine what sort of insight someone of my particular mayoral level could impart.

For example, we now live in a post-“Mr. Brexit” world (I live in the UK, when I’m not living in SimCity! lol), and it’s becoming increasingly apparent how much we take free trade for granted. At the moment, I can quite happily trade with France, but, let’s just say that instead of it costing me 4 seeds, 3 barbecues and 2 deckchairs to import a baguette, it cost me 40 seeds, 30 barbecues and 20 deckchairs!! It simply wouldn’t be viable! Not only would this have a devastating impact on my local businesses (and they wouldn’t be shy about letting me know about it), but it also makes me ponder what we’d lose from being able to import items – e.g. French bread or onions – that we quite simply cannot create domestically. There would be a requisite reduction in our very *culture* as well as a financial impact.  This is something that it is all too easy to forget.

IRL politics is in turmoil at the moment – what with “Mr. Brexit”, Presitrump and the like – and ordinary people not only don’t trust politicians, but they don’t trust politics itself. It is a truly frightening place to be.  By playing SimCity BuildIt, it’s become clear that balance and understanding are needed if we are to move out of this dastardly malaise. It seems that breaking people down into simply “left”, “right”, “up” or “down” is – and always was – a hopelessly ineffective categorization.  What we need, in this great big melting pot that is society, is a new way of doing things.

It is for this reason that I call for anyone running for office to complete a mandatory one hour per day’s worth of SimCity BuildIt gameplay.  Come on, guys, you know it makes sense.

Until next time,

See you laterrrrrrrr
