Mayor Cheeky Monkey HD.Com ran up the steps in front of City Hall like a gazelle in the Olympics. This was particularly impressive as he didn’t have any shoes on. Stanley, the doorman, had anticipated the Mayor’s flight-path and had the door open ready. The mayor swept through the hallway like an angry broom, not missing even half of a stride. His office was at the end of a long corridor and at the last moment he dived into a forward roll and then leapt through the door with an expressive yelp.
He landed on the rug in the centre of the office with a satisfying thud. Jose, his deputy, stood anxiously to one side, clutching a overflowing clipboard like it was an annoying toddler.
“Mayor,” sobbed Jose. “Thank goodness you’re here…” The mayor lifted a finger to stop Jose in his tracks, like a braking train.
“One moment,” said the Mayor, rising to his feet. “I need to get changed first.” The Mayor removed his overcoat, revealing his bright red Spider-Man swimming trunks underneath. He slid open his left-hand desk drawer and pulled out a spare suit, which he quickly pulled on. (He also had a shirt, tie, socks and shoes that he pulled on. He would still look weird if he was wearing only a suit and swimming trunks). He looked directly into Jose’s eyes. “Now, my friend. What seems to be the problem?”
Jose struggled to hold back his tears.
“Mister Mayor,” he wailed. “We need four Bread, five Deckchairs and three Plastic to upgrade a residential block, but we don’t have enough Flour Bags to make any more Bread!”
Mayor Cheeky Monkey HD.Com ran his hand through his lovely hair and sighed.
“This time,” said the Mayor. “It’s personal.”
To be continued.
